Here is a clip from Ben Kingsley's Oscar-winning performance in the 1982 film, Gandhi, which also won seven other Oscars. Actor Bill Murray reads two poems by Wallace Stevens, the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, in the second clip. And the third is a trailer for the film Life through a Lens about the great Annie Leibovitz. Just wonderful.
Two Poems by Wallace Stevens Read by Bill Murray
Maybe this is the way to turn us into a country that loves poetry. Most of us don't know our poets, but we worship celebrity. Wouldn't it be great if our celebrities read and recorded poems that could be watched over and over like in this clip with Bill Murray? Madonna reading Emily Dickinson. Angelina Jolie reading William Carlos Williams. Will Smith reading Walt Whitman. Kim Kardashian reading Pablo Neruda or Mary Oliver. We would pay attention then, wouldn't we?
